Yoga & Chiropractic: The Connection
Have you ever been to a yoga class and realized that certain yoga poses are similar to specific rehabilitative exercises, or vise versa? Perhaps you have been fortunate enough to escape the need for such exercises to date, therefore not yet experiencing this link. There is however, a definite relationship between these two therapeutic mediums.
Due to this apparent connection, I have developed a genuine interest in how yoga can be used therapeutically for my chiropractic patients. I have much to learn about this connectedness; however, I feel fortunate to have a few instructors in the area whom I trust in teaching my patients.
One remarkable connection I have made since moving to Vancouver is with Kreg Weiss and Michelle Trantina of www.myyogaonline.com. They are the co-founders of a wonderfully and locally developed website that provides yoga classes and information to the internet public. I have recently become a regular contributor to their “Yoga Blog” as well as their “Yoga Anatomy” section on neuromusculoskeletal issues related to yoga. I will continually be linking the articles I write for www.myyogaonline.com from my website blogs. Take a look at my first article on the relationship between yoga and chiropractic.
I encourage all of you to search out safe yoga practices, as yoga is only fabulous when performed with the protection the body in mind. In many of my articles and blogs, I will be discussing the risks associated with certain poses or movements. With education comes injury prevention as well as marvelous therapeutic benefits. Enjoy the adventure of learning, ask loads of questions, please practice safely, and have fun!
