What are the following techniques and how can they help me?

Active Release Technique (A.R.T.) ®

ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.  Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART.  These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

Graston Technique ®

Graston Technique® is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.

Graston® is an extremely effective method of managing sports injury, chronic muscular tightness, fascial pain, peripheral nerve entrapments, and even post-surgical scar tissue (just to name a few).

Kinesio® Taping

For more than 25 years,  Kinesio® Taping has been breaking new ground in the fields of sports performance, pain management and physical therapy.

The Kinesio® Taping Method is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while allowing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion. It is used to successfully treat a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and medical conditions.

Functional Movement Systems™ (FMS™)

The Functional Movement Screen (FMS™) is an innovative assessment technique based on seven tests, which attempts to identify imbalances in mobility and stability during fundamental movement patterns. This assessment tool is thought to exacerbate the individual’s compensatory movement problems, allowing for easy identification.  It is these movement flaws that may lead to breakdown in the kinetic linking system, causing inefficiency and micro-trauma during activity.

Selective Functional Movement Assessment™ (SFMA™)

The Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA™) is designed to enable practitioners to capture the patterns of posture and function for comparison against a baseline.  It is an organizational method used to rank the quality of functional movements and, when sub-optimal, the patient’s provocation of symptoms.

Neuromuscular Training

Very commonly, individuals adopt aberrant (abnormal) motor firing patterns; this means that the correct muscles do not contract when they are supposed to. These aberrant patterns can perpetuate the injury cycle and continue to place individuals at risk of injury. Correcting these motor patterns is possible once they are identified. There are multiple methods of neuromuscular training, some of which include vibration therapy, proprioception training and rehabilitation exercises.

Joint Adjustment / Mobilization

An adjustment is a non-invasive, manual procedure that is designed to restore motion to a restricted joint in the body. The joints in the spine, as well as a number of other joints in the body, such as the ankle and wrist can be adjusted. The main goal of joint manipulation is to decrease pain and return the joint to full function. This is accomplished by improving the movement of the joint and supporting tissues, as well as by decreasing muscle tightness or spasm.

Rehabilitation

Most conditions are due to a muscular weakness or inhibition. Chiropractors are able to test for weakness in the body and design a specific rehabilitation program accordingly. Rehabilitating the weak links is key to returning to optimal levels of health as well as to preventing injury.

Custom Orthotics

A certain amount of pronation and supination can be controlled through a well selected shoe. However, when this is not enough, a custom orthotic can alleviate pain and prevent further damage to structures in the body. That said, depending on our biomechanical makeup, we can often prevent the need for orthotics by rehabilitating weak or inhibited muscles appropriately. Therefore, custom orthotics can be extremely useful in allowing us to continue to participate in our favourite activities during a time when we are rehabilitating weak musculature. A complete assessment is always necessary to determine whether custom orthotics are ideal for you.
